His success came with a good amount of excess and self-orchestrated suffering (mostly through heavy drinking). After a devastating rejection and life change, he discovered a discarded broken statue of Mary and painstakingly repaired it. Seeing himself in this broken image of Mary, he began piecing together his long-neglected spiritual life.
 
Now he travels the United States and beyond (even meeting Pope Leo!) to preach that we are all broken but loved by God.
